Maar liefst 100.000 euro verdient Kevin Barry met het winnen van de IMPAC Dublin Literary Award 2013 voor de verhalenbundel City of Bohane. Tommy Wieringa stond met de vertaling van Caesarion ook de shortlist van de prijs.

De Lord Mayor of Dublin en Patron of the Award, Naoise Ó Muirí verklaarde blij te zijn dat de prijs nu naar een Ier ging:

I’m thrilled to see an Irish author of such immense talent take home this year’s award. City of Bohane is a vivid, atmospheric portrayal of a city in the West of Ireland set in the future but mired in the past. The highly original cast of characters are at once flamboyant and malevolent, speaking in a vernacular like no other.

Kevin Barry is de derde Ier die deze prestigieuze prijs wint. In eerste instantie nomineren bibliotheken in heel Europa de boeken voor deze prijs. Barry was blij met zijn uitverkiezing:

The fact that this award originates with the libraries is what makes it very special for me – libraries are where we learn that we can live our lives through books.

Gerbrand Bakker won de prijs in 2010 voor The Twin (Boven is het stil).
