De Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2014 is toegekend aan de Zweedse Barbro Lindgren (1937). Dat is zojuist bekendgemaakt. Volgens de jury van de ‘Nobelprijs voor kinderliteratuur’ is Lindgren

a literary pioneer. Using adventurous language and rich psychological nuance, she has re-invented not only the picture book for the very young but also the absurd prose story, the existential children’s poem, and realistic fiction for young adults. With perfect pitch, she presents to us both playful shenanigans and moments of bright joy, and the inscrutable nature of life and the nearness of death.

Lindgren schreef meer dan honderd titels. Haar werk is vertaald in meer dan dertig talen, waaronder Nederlands en Fries.

De Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is in 2002 ingesteld door de Zweedse overheid. De prijs gaat naar een auteur die in de geest van de kinderboekenschrijfster Astrid Lindgren werkt. De prijs is de grootste ter wereld op het gebied van kinder- en jeugdliteratuur.
