Bijna 80 jaar na zijn dood is er discussie over de laatste rustplaats van de Ierse schrijver James Joyce. Zou het niet mooi zijn als in 2022, honderd jaar na de eerste publicatie van Ulysses, zijn graf verplaatst zou worden van Zürich naar Dublin?

In The Guardian reageert de in Dublin wonende schrijver Mark O’Connell negatief op dat idee. Het graf van Joyce zou alleen maar een volgende tourist trap worden. Daarnaast heeft hij nog een waarschuwing:

What would happen is that Joyce’s bones would bring more tourists to a city that, were he alive today, he would still have to leave because he couldn’t afford to live in it. And what would furthermore happen, I may as well warn you now, is that I would personally dig up those bones in the dead of night, haul them into eternity along Sandymount strand, and heave them into the snot-green, scrotum-tightening sea.
